Machete Kill Again in Space Is Now A Real Thing

Machete (2010) started off as a funny fake trailer in the movie Grindhouse (2007). This funny idea for a movie became a real thing, and has achieved quite a success. It has spawned Machete Kills (2013) which featured another fake trailer at the end of it, involving space, clones, and a lightsaber machete. Now, another fake trailer becomes another movie when Danny Trejo reveals that he and Robert Rodriguez are planning to make it happen, and it’s gonna be awesome.

Movie Review: Trust Me (2013)

Directed by: Clark Gregg

Written by: Clark Gregg

Starring: Clark Gregg, Amanda Peet, Saxon Sharbino, Paul Sparks, Sam Rockwell

For some reason, when I saw a trailer to this movie months ago, I really wanted to see it. But it was only shown at the Tribecca Film Festival and had a limited release in only the U.S. So there went my chances of seeing it early, I had to wait so long, I almost forgot about it. Trust Me is supported by an all-star cast and – contrary to what it seems – is not a comedy, while it has some funny moments, do not be confused, it does contains some dark, dramatic tones.

First things first, congratulations to Clark Gregg for directing his second film, the first being Choke (2008). Trust Me is about Howard Holloway, a struggling talent agent and former child star who is just trying to reclaim some of his former glory in a business where his kindness puts him at a disadvantage.

Despite that corny looking poster [above], this film is not afraid to get into dark territory and moral dilemmas. It has some themes, such as: betrayal, survival, ambition. We are shown the frustratingly cut throat world of TV, movies, and child actors. Howard was once a child star himself, and due to certain circumstances, his career was burned long ago, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting to obtain that level of stardom and renown once again. While he seems to be failing, he does whatever he can to survive, even going as far as faking illnesses or accidents in humourous ways. Then, a miracle happens, a young actress with huge potential wants Howard to be her agent, and here’s where all the things start to happen.

Gregg, Sharbino, and Sparks deliver wonderful and convincing performances. I mean, they really do bring a certain depth to the film. While it isn’t the most dramatic or funniest or darkest film I have ever encountered, it achieves a nice blend of those categories. Even though he is starring in his own movie, I do believe he is the right man for the job, Gregg’s overall vibe makes me truly believe that he is one of the nicest people in the world, despite all the crappy things in his personal or business life. And when he came across Sharbino and Spark’s, they had a dysfunctional dynamic that I absolutely adored. It made you hate and love it at the same time.

There was an underlying theme that I think was meant to be subtle, but came out as a little obvious: metamorphosis. During some scenes, there was a horribly animated butterfly that would just flutter across the screen at certain points or a character would grow wings, and I think it means some sort of transformation or ascension, and also ambition. The characters want recognition, fame, or money, and the process of how they try to achieve it is more important then if they do.

Few things I do not like about the movie is the intro, it spoiled the ending for me, and gave it less of an impact then it could’ve been, and the minor characters were really forgettable to me even if they were in the majority of the film.

Overall

+ Clark Gregg; awesome

+ Saxon Sharbino; amazing

+ Paul Sparks; memorable

+ Script reading scene

– Abrupt and forgettable minor characters
